Rambukkana Hospital Project

Background:
Rambukkana hospital serves the Rambukkana division in Kegalle district with a population of about 75,000. The hospital has 104 beds and the number of outpatients per day is around 500.

Objective of the Project:
To provide urgently needed equipment to the hospital.

Donor: Dr. and Mrs. Ben Rajapaksa, 107, Green Street, Woodbridge, NJ 07095 Funds provided by the donor via I-FREED = $ 2,000 (Traveler’s checks cashed provided Rs. 188,574.14).

Project Manager: Mrs. Sujatha de Silva, Wife of Prof. G.T.F. de Silva, Former Vice Chancellor, Univ. of Moratuwa.

Progress: A team consisting of Dr. K. M. Ranaweera (DMO, Rambukkana Hospital), Mr. Sunil Jayalath (Assistant Gov. Agent), Mr. S. Chandraratna, District Executive Engineer, and the Project Manager has selected the suppliers of equipment using Health Department tender board procedures for equipment valued over Rs. 50,000 and at least two quotations for other items.

Items 1, 3, 4, and 5 have been purchased and handed over the D.M.O. and all these units are now in use. Item # 2 has been ordered from Japan. Treasurer of I-FREED participated at the handing over ceremony. Balance left (Rs. 1,134.89) together with the receipts and warranty cards, etc. were handed over to DMO.
