First medical supply shipment from Houston to Eastern Province, Sri Lanka

We have collected several pallets of basic medical supplies from Medical Bridges Inc, Walgreens, Houston area Hospitals and Medical Clinics. During this coming weekend this medicine will be airlifted from Houston to Colombo, Sri Lanka. The supplies will be directly distributed to the Batticaloa Hospital through the Poverty Reach Rehabilitation Center. Some of the medical supplies will be sent to Hospitals in the affected areas and the rest to the Volunteer Doctors from GMOA providing medical services in refugee camps.

Update : 1/02/2005 CST
The first shipment of medicine and medical supplies weighting approx. 900 lb got airlifted from Houston today. Houston based Continental Air Lines is taking this shipment of medicine free-of-charge up to Paris, France. From Paris, the shipment will be airlifted to Colombo via Sri Lankan Air Lines free-of-charge. We thank both Continental Air Lines and Sri Lankan Air Lines for helping us in this effort to help Tsunami victims in Sri Lanka.

The shipment of medical supplies arrived at the Katunayake International Airport on Sri Lankan Airlines flight UL566 Today (Sri Lanka time). Ms Pamodine Wijeyanayaka from ADIC and Dr. Samantha deSilva will coordinate with the Ministry of Health to clear the medicine and medical supplies as soon as possible.

Update : 1/10/2005 CST
The medical supplies were finally released from the Katunayaka International Airport Today. The consignment was handed over to the GMOA to be airlifted by Helicopter to the Batticaloa Hospital in the Eastern Province.

Update : 1/18/2005 CST
The medical supplies were finally delivered to the Batticaloa Hospital by Truck (Lorry) on January 13, 2005. The journey took longer than expected due to flooded and impassable roads.
